Thunder BRidge Cabin 2 (Parcell)
Perfect Fall Weekend
What a perfect weekend spent in this beautiful, rustic cabin! You’d never know this gem was tucked away in the woods… it felt very private and serene. We loved that we could walk down to the creek from our cabin site. The fireplace inside the cabin was a Godsend, as it was pretty cold at night. Adam was a genuine, friendly and kind host, who had the firewood I’d pre-purchased already stacked on the porch upon our arrival. He also greeted us upon entering the property to guide us to our cabin. The bathhouse was clean and well functioning as was the outhouse. We enjoyed playing corn hole after dark in the indoor common area (with electricity) adjoining the bathhouse. (Wish we’d. brought games!) Overall just a wonderful weekend. What a cool property! Thanks for sharing with us, Adam! We will return!

Fantastic time. Adam was very helpful with organizing the stay. He treated us like friends he has known for awhile. I would absolutely recommend the campsites! They were clean and huge! The bathhouse/ bathrooms were kept nice and clean. Hot water is great. We will be booking another trip again and look forward to working with Adam in the future.

A wonderful Hipcamp
Thunder Bridge was a wonderful place. We immediately felt warmly and helpfully welcomed by Adam. The grounds are spacious, and the campsites have plenty of room between them. There is lots of wonderful hiking in the nearby James River Wilderness Area, which is part of the Jefferson National Forest. The Appalachian Trail is alsonot far away. There are bathrooms with showers, sinks and toilets, and hot water. It is simple and rustic, but if you aren’t looking for anything fancy, and you want to be out in beautiful forests, this is a great place to be.

We had a great weekend! We stayed at site 4, there was plenty of room for our group (2 families) to spread out. The covered picnic area was a plus as well as the proximity to the bathhouse and pavilion. Bathrooms were very clean and had hot water! Access to hot water spigots for doing dishes was a bonus. We loved exploring the property, sites are spread out so it was very quiet. The obstacle course/field area and the creek were favorites with our group. Also very close to some local favorite hiking spots. Adam was a great host, always quick to respond to any questions and even very prompt to come help when an issue came up at our site. Would highly recommend staying here and we look forward to coming again!

RV Site 1
Close to nearby attractions
I camped the weekend of October 15th 2022 on RV site #1. The site itself is spacious, level, well manicured with a fire pit and picnic table. Internet is also available at the site. Adam, the host met me open arrival and showed me to the site. I was also offer use of the bathroom in a small home adjacent to RV site 1. For perspective, I've camped multiple times at the nearby campgrounds Jellystone Park and Cave Mountain Lake over the years. This place is like Cave Mountain Lake but with very private sites, (particularly for tent campers) minus the crowds. The trail head to Devils Marble Yard is only about 1 mile away. The place is also very dog friendly. Hands down the next time I visit this area this is where I'll be making reservations. Friendly host, economical, spread out, now that's what camping is supposed to be.

Hidden gem in VA!
What a gem of a campground. The sites are well maintained and spaced far enough apart you feel like you are camping in the wilderness. The bathhouse isn't too far of a walk from the sites. Adam, the host, goes above and beyond with customer service. He gave us advice on hikes in the area. Be sure to hike his recommendations! The bathhouse is a basic one with toilets and showers. It's campground perfect. Cement floors with curtains dividing the shower areas. The only downside is no shelf or bench in the shower area to place belongings. There is a clear shower bag hanging on the wall to place your items in. Overall they are very clean and stocked. Outside hose with hot water is available for cleaning dishes, etc. I would highly recommend this campground if you are visiting the Natural Bridge area. And for those of you like me with a Skoolie, Thunder BRidge is Skoolie friendly! Happy Camping!

Very large, flat and private campsites. The bathhouse is clean and has hot water with showers. Thunder Bridge really stands out in other ways though. There is a huge wide open field near the wooded tent sites which was perfect for star gazing. Bordering the field is an obstacle course which my kids loved. We can't wait to go back!

Love this campground!
We loved our camp site! Bunny 5 site was huge and you could hear the stream in the background. We were also close to the bathrooms yet still private! Adam is a wonderful host who was so understanding when we had to leave early due a sick kiddo. We were bummed we couldn’t stay longer but will definitely return!

Bunny 3 camping with Mom weekend
Loved camping here. I booked Bunny 3 for a long weekend getaway with my Mom and we weren't disappointed. I had a small camper and the site was perfect for us and can accommodate several tents. Good and level site, large fire pit, good tree cover. The sites are very private and spread out so you feel that enjoyment of being in the woods. We were right next to he bath house. Adam was super friendly and a great host. Our only suggestion is to add a little shelf in the women's room so the ladies can put their stuff on it. I can't wait to come back with my friends.

We had a great experience at Adam’s place. He met us when we arrived and was very helpful and friendly, which was much appreciated after arriving late due to unexpected traffic. The location is great- just a quick drive (10 minutes) to Natural Bridge State Park and not too far from Shenandoah National Park meant there were plenty of local options, but we also could have spent the entire time at the campsite. It was spacious, well-kept, and provided a great mix of wide open fields for our littles to run around on and dense wooded areas to explore. The WiFi worked as promised and all facilities were clean and functioning. Everyone had a great time and we appreciated Adam’s hospitality!

Meg F.recommendsOctober 10, 2022 Thunder BRidge Cabin 2 (Parcell) Very cool cabin! Adam was a wonderful camping host! He greeted us at the entrance, shower us around and shared some of the very interesting history of the property. The cabin was clean and spacious. There is no heat, power or water, so nights were chilly. However, the fireplace is useable; it doesn’t give off a ton of heat but does take the chill out of the air a bit. Our kids loved playing in the creek, gathering sticks for a fire and exploring the camp. We can wait to come back! Adam P. (Host) replied October 17, 2022 Thanks Meg. Playing in creeks was my absolute favorite growing up. I think every child should experience a good spring fed, clean creek.Delete reply Megan P.recommendsOctober 9, 2022 Site 4 (aka Woodpecker 3) Great prices, better views. 10/10 Nestled in the mountains, this camp site was abundant with wildlife and soothing nature—there was a small creek near our campsite that provided calming water noises. There was no electricity or running water at our site, but we were at Woodpecker 3 (highly recommend) and were a short walk away from the bathhouse that had electricity, wifi, showers, and bathrooms. The site was well-maintained, level for pitching a tent, and Adam was incredibly helpful and friendly. He even directed us to a farm nearby where we strolled around and met a few barn animals. There’s a lot to do if you’re willing to drive about an hour, we went to Carter Mountain (Bold Rock) and Blue Ridge Mountain Corn Maze. The views and scenery is simply to die for. Highly recommend this campsite if you’re in the area and want to feel immersed by nature. Adam P. (Host) replied October 17, 2022 Glad you enjoyed your stay. We actually have quite a few breweries and a cider place within about 10 minutes from the camp, and a few in Lexington as well as Rockbridge Vineyards in raphine all within 30 minutes. Delete reply Ella T.recommendsOctober 9, 2022 RV Site 3 My family just wrapped up our weekend camping trip at Thunder Bridge Campground! I took my pop up and stayed on rv site 4 and my parents were in their pull behind on rv site 3. We came prepared with a generator as these sites don’t have electricity but there was a small plug we used to power our pop up camper. There is a water spicket between to the two sites that we shared. There was so much land for the kiddos to play on, some really cool wooden structures, climbing ropes, and a kickball field! The bath house is a decent walk away( we drove) but Adam unlocked a small building close to our sites that we could use which was great. We visited Laynes country store and va safari park during our stay. We had lots of little kids so we didn’t walk the trails but he’s so close to natural bridge and a ton of others. You’re right at the base of Thomas Jefferson National Park and the view is breathtaking. I’ve never stayed at a campground where you can literally see the mountains. Adam has wifi available for use which is great! He’s a great host and we will definitely be back! Thanks Adam! Adam P. (Host) replied October 17, 2022 Thanks Ella. Delete reply Kimberly B.recommendsSeptember 6, 2022 RV Site 1 Wonderful property and host! Adam was such a gracious host - I really enjoyed my time here! Easy tow in from 81 w/out significant elevation chngs. On arrival, I met Adam at the appointed spot. He guided me to the site & assisted with backing in. I'm solo w a 19' travel trailer, so the assistance was appreciated. It's a spacious site with both sun and trees for shade & parking was easy. Site has both 30a & 50a svc, however, the elec and water are not on the same side. I backed in w elec on the right & water on the left & had no issues reaching either as my elec cord is on the back of my trailer. It's possible to back in the other way but there will be closer-spaced trees to navigate. All that said, you may need an extension for either your electric or a long water hose, altho it's not 'that' far, depending on how you park. Just be aware/prepared. The property is large, super quiet & very dark at night - lots of new animals noises! I was literally the only RV for the weekend & had the entire RV 'field' to myself and my dog, with tent campers neither visible or heard from the wooded areas of the property. Walking the property is wonderful, with lots of history. The graveled roads in the forested tent/cabin areas was nice & shady/cool for a hot days walk with my dog. I wasn't able to find good access to creek. Tons to do & see in the area. Adam was able to recommend a water access point on the river where I could take my dog swimming. All in all HIGHLY recommend - huge thanks, Adam!! :) Helpful Adam P. (Host) replied September 20, 2022 I am glad you enjoyed your trip. I should probably make some signs directing people to the creek. We have trails that run parallel to the creek but currently they aren't labeled. All of the cabins are next to the creek. He made sure we found our sites (even though we were late arriving). Nice bath house (clean) and community area. Was super helpful with vehicle issues we had and just nice. Was a great spot for our families, the screened cabin was a great spot to have. 15 minutes to the put-in for the Balcony Falls section of the James and even less to Natural Bridge State Park. He met us by the entrance and led us back to the site. Helped us back in under a shade tree. 30/50 service available - we used the 30. No problems whatsoever. The Wi-Fi is definitely a plus since cell phone coverage is spotty in the area. Water at the site, a firepit, a solid picnic table, and a few shade trees. Perfect! Very peaceful and quiet at Thunder BRidge. Sit back and listen to the birds and insects, watch the deer and foxes, and enjoy stargazing at night. We even saw 3 shooting stars!! Minimal traffic on the local road that you won't even notice. Their 100 acres is an amazing mix of open fields and woods adjacent to the Jefferson National Forest. The site has an interesting collection of old buildings and athletic fields that they are repurposing. They have 1.5 miles of gravel roadways snaking through the woods to the various tent and cabin sites and the bathhouse. Every site is private. Lots of space to just wander around or let the kids run wild. We rode our e-bikes around for several hours on the roadways and mowed paths and were amazed at the peacefulness. The bathhouse is a 10-minute walk from RV Site 1. Bring a flashlight for after dark! Porta potties scattered around the area as well. Thunder Bridge is close to the Cave Mountain Lake Recreation Area, Devil's Marbleyard, and James River Face Wilderness. We used their dump station and trash room on the way out. Everything worked flawlessly. Adam P. (Host) replied September 2, 2022 Thanks so much Bill. I am really glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again. Congrats again on your retirement. P.S. I hope your cats didn't get into too much trouble while you were gone. :)Delete reply Chelsey H.recommendsAugust 8, 2022 Site 2 (aka Woodpecker 5) Camping with kids and a dog! 2nd time visiting the property, 1st time tent camped with my wife (which was also great), and 2nd time we brought the kids and dog to the screened in cabin. Everyone loved it. If you have kids then this is a great option, there are beds already there, just need twin size bedding or queen if you put two together. Sturdy table also provided with 4 chairs and picnic tables outside. Fire pit has a grate to cook over. Could hear the creek while we were there because it had just rained a lot. Trails through property were fun for the kids to explore. The kids also enjoyed trying to see how many different colored mushrooms they could find. No complaints. Helpful Adam P.
