In mid June we had an open house/studio tour, so friends, neighbors and other curious people could come see what's going on here. We were worried no one would show up, but boy did they show up. These pictures don't really show how many people were here, but we estimate more than 500 came. The food truck sold 300 meals and sold out 3 hours before it was over. It was great fun for the artists and we were told the visitors enjoyed it just as much. Some stayed for several hours. Many have asked when we'll do it again. It probably won't be till next Spring. Since the open house we've had 4 new artists join us and hopefully more coming soon. Here's a list of the artists. Celeste Simon, Benjamin Frey, Krista Staton, Brinn Willis, Melissa Sizemore, Susan Brady, Nina Whitehouse, Christine Sajecki, James and Karen Pannabecker.
While the campground isn't as busy as we'd like it to be, it's a lot busier than last year. For 3 weeks in July the Teen Adventure campers stayed here. The farm and art group painted our giant water tank. Another group built us a new campsite as a service project. We'll have to come up with a fun idea for next year's project for them. I love that they signed their names on the back.
The old administration building is just about ready for guests. I'll do a blog post just on it, with interior photos too. I love the green with yellow trim. It looks so much better than that ugly faded khaki color. James is already scraping the next house we'll fix up. One day hopefully all the buildings will shine with fresh color. It makes the place look so much happier.
James, Adam and I are continuing to have fun with this endeavor. It's hard to believe we've owned it for more than 2 years. We're enjoying seeing new faces and having return campers. There's an energy that wasn't here a year ago.
The open house was SUCH FUN!! I had hoped you would do another in the fall when it's cooler and all the colors are present. I'm very happy that things are going so well, but I knew you and James and Adam could pull it off with all the positive energy you all have. I have treasures from the open house to cherish. Thank you and all the others for all the talent that just springs up. Best always. Susan.
