Anyone driving by the camp probably wonders what the heck is going on here. There are huge piles of dirt and rocks and big trenches between many of the buildings. Our 4th and final septic system is going in and it's a huge job. This system will serve 3 art studios, the 2 barracks, kitchen, gym and administration building. It's a complicated job and I can't comprehend how our contractors, Jake and Tim Paul, can get all the pipes going downhill or uphill, and dig and not hit the water pipes, fiber optic lines, electric, etc, of this little village. Yesterday one of 3 tanks was delivered. James tells me it's our 8th tank so far. For those of you who like watching this kind of thing, here's the tank going in the ground. My dad would have loved watching all of this going on. As I type this another tank is being delivered.
These pictures don't really show the scope of how big this project is.
Here's Jake cutting through the concrete with a gigantic wet saw. It hurt my back just watching him have to move so slowly to make a long cut. Sidewalks and roads have to be cut into to run the sewage pipes.
Meanwhile, things at the campground are pretty quiet. Today we have a group of 16 teens (Teen Adventure Camp) coming for a few days to camp and do a service project for us. The plan is for them to cut a path that runs along the creek. I think this groups' focus is art so we're hoping they'll be inspired by Andy Goldsworthy's art and create sculptures from the saplings, vines and rocks they have to move, for other campers to enjoy. We had another Teen Adventure group (canoeists) camp at the river last Sunday. There are 2 more Teen Adventure groups coming after this group. Please tell your friends about us. https://www.hipcamp.com/en-US/discover/virginia/thunder-bridge?pic=%7B%3Alocale%3D%3E%3A%22en-AU%22%7D
