A friend recently said to me, with a big smile on his face, "YOU own a gym!!" That made me laugh, because it IS kind of hilarious that we own one. I think I responded something like, "yeah, well our gym needs a lot of work". Still, we do find it fun to go in there and shoot baskets or look around. It's a pretty neat building.
Last night James and I turned on all the lights in the gym and we shot baskets for a bit and then talked about what we could do with the vinyl tile floor that's coming up. We've been told there's a machine that removes them quite easily. I think we're going to rent one and see what the concrete looks like underneath. Maybe we can make the concrete pretty.
Baxter seemed to like the gym too but didn't know what to do with the ball.
The school mascot here was The Timberwolf. Does anyone know who D. Bostic is, who painted the timberwolf on the gym wall?
We're not sure what we'll do with the gym once we make the floor suitable for use and get the bathrooms on a septic system, etc. We won't be putting in a hardwood floor so I don't know if it could
be used for basketball with just concrete. We've been told there's a shortage of gymnasiums for sporting events in Rockbridge County. Perhaps it could be used for hosting events. It's still too early for us to know what we're going to do with all these buildings.
The same friend who said to me, "you own a gym", said to James today, "this place is your toy".
Hmm, maybe it is. I do know we love dreaming about the possibilities.
I remember when the Timberwolf was painted on the gym wall. I believe one of the boys that stayed there painted it. The camp was closed down not long after they renovated the gym because I always thought what a waste of time and money.
