Demolition and rebuilding

To make improvements things have to get ugly before they get pretty. That's what we're going through now. In the large scheme of things we've hardly made a dent in all that needs to be done, but we are making progress and it feels really good.

One of the big steps forward is our first septic system is now installed. It will service the bath house back in what used to be Camp New Hope, now Thunder BRidge campground.

It looks like a big mess, but underneath it will do all we want it to do. This space is just outside the bath house, which I posted pictures of before. We've finally begun the huge task of getting it in shape. We removed the concrete block walls in the shower area, which was a fun job and made a big difference. We also removed the vinyl wall coverings that were coming away from the walls. I don't know what we'll do with the walls after pressure washing them. We may cover them back up, but don't know what to cover them with yet.

Adam's house-to-be is going through some big changes too. It was once a duplex and you had to enter each side from different entrances. The first thing we did was remove the wall that divided the two spaces.

It's much less confusing finding your way around now. What used to be a kitchen, dining room and extra bedroom, will now become his laundry, bedroom, bathroom and closet. Here's where the kitchen was.

And now it's a gutted room, waiting to be a laundry.

Both existing bathrooms have tile falling off the walls and bad linoleum flooring.

Many people have asked us why we bought this place and have let us know they think we've lost our minds, and I totally get that. Those are legitimate questions and thoughts. I guess the simple answer to why is, James and I have always loved projects and I think we think of ourselves as younger and more capable than we are. We also love to learn. I don't think this will ever change. I know there will be many lessons learned here. Hopefully most of them good ones. As for being a little bit crazy? That's what we love about each other.

Jerry & I are right there with you! We too think that we are a bit crazy, and possibly more so, our family, friends and neighbors! Like yourselves, we think ahead to the future, cover all the bases and make our house a home and an oasis or sanctuary where we can enjoy our grounds and our retirement when that time comes. Proud to be able to achieve any or all goals that we set our minds to. So rewarding to do what we can on our own and proud to say so. What you two are doing, we think is wonderful to say the least. Your rewards will be seeing the community and people from all over, come to…

I hope that happens, I'll be sure to let you know about it if it does. It may take us a bit to get there, but we're going to try our best.
