Besides having a campground, James and I would love to draw the art community to the camp. We've been throwing around a lot of ideas as to how to use the buildings and the land and incorporate art and music. The field would be a wonderful place for a music festival and perhaps some of the buildings could be used for workshops, studio space or performances. In the meantime, while we dream about these things, James and I have both chosen which buildings will be our own studios. James committed to his almost right away. I walked through all the buildings again and again until something felt right.
James chose the Youth Industries Building (building 31). This is where the boys built things to sell. It's a huge space, more than 2,200 square feet. It reminds me of a saloon. It sits across from the auto and masonry shops.
He has all his art supplies and his keyboard there and he's figuring out where he wants things. It's very neat and tidy, I think.
My space, on the other hand, is still a mess and I haven't moved much of anything into it, except my welder. I've chosen a space that was a classroom and garage where it appears they learned building skills. The ceiling is coming down in some places and I have lots of mildew to remove but it feels right to me. I like the space because it's divided into 2 areas. One will be where I paint and the garage space will be where I weld and build "stuff". It's also very close to the maintenance building so I can jump back and forth between the 2. It's 1,200 square feet. The space I paint in now is 270 square feet so this is really exciting.
The side where I'll paint has a desk, or maybe a bar. I guess it depends what time of day it is :)
This cock-eyed sign, which is hung on another building, should really be on my studio. It makes me smile.
Would love to be a part of this artists loop!!
Your Bear was at our house 6/9 in the back yard Ginger and I went out she took pics. He laid down and was eating core I had put out for squirrels !
You know, those buildings would be great renovated as one would a loft (for living space.) Just thinking here... Also, is his space always neat and tidy? It wouldn't surprise me because his bedroom always was. Mine was usually a mess...like my sewing room. I love all of these.
It is great when things come together. Glad the Camp is is getting a new life. It really hurt the heart to see it set. Wishing you all well!
Are you keeping the ball field? Be a great place for youth softball tournaments!
